Q. Do I need a referral to see you?

A. No. Paul Kane is qualified to treat patients without a doctor's referral for the first 30 days of treatment. As a practical matter, however, some insurance companies, notably motor vehicle insurance carriers and Medicare, often require a doctor's referral. Please call or email our office if you have any questions regarding this.

Q. How do I know whether to ask my doctor to refer me to you?

A. You, as the consumer, have a right to choose which practitioner you visit. If your doctor would like to discuss the techniques we use, please have him or her call our office.

Q. What should I expect on the first visit?

A. A comprehensive evaluation of your problem, including a history, measurement of range of motion and assessment of your condition, then treatment, as indicated by the findings of the assessment, will begin.

Q. What should I wear on the first visit?

A.  You will want to wear clothing which is loose, comfortable, moves easily and will allow easy examination of the area of injury.  For injuries above the waist, tee shirts or tank tops are recommended.  For injuries below the waist, shorts or loose elastic waisted pants such as yoga pants work well.  Shorts are best suited for injuries from the thigh down, especially for knee injuries.

Q.  I've been injured in a motor vehicle accident.  What should I do?

1)  Seek medical attention and follow your doctor's instructions.
2)  Contact your car insurance company.
3)  File an accident claim with DMV.
4)  Call or visit Summit Physical Therapy for an evaluation.

If you have been in an auto accident, even if your initial pain is not severe, call our clinic for advice. We can provide the treatment necessary to stop the injury process, prevent permanent damage and promote healing.  Immediately after a traumatic injury (0-3 days after injury), your muscles and nervous system respond by spasming. It is vital to stop this spasm and rebalance your nervous system by having a skilled therapist begin a program of treatment and gentle exercise.

Q.  I've had this injury for years.  Can you really do something about it?

You are probably in the "regeneration phase". Your body lays down scar tissue which is less elastic and has a poor blood supply. We specialize in gentle techniques to decrease stiffness and diminish the amount of scar tissue present.  After this, exercises to promote new connective tissue growth are indicated.  We have been able to help many patients with long standing injuries using a combination of techniques.  Summit Physical Therapy has helped people with injuries that have been persistent for up to 30 years.

Q. What will it cost?

At Summit Physical Therapy, we are acutely aware of the high cost of medicine. That is why we offer services which utilize techniques designed to be applied by you, at home, to enhance their effectiveness. With these skills, you can stay pain free without having to resort to periodic treatment.

A.  We have agreements with many insurance companies to accept what they will pay. We will inform you if you have to pay a deductible or co-pay, or you can call your insurance company beforehand to determine this information. In today's times, many people are obtaining insurance policies with high deductibles.  We offer a discount for cash payment, and we do have a hardship policy.

Please call us at (503) 699-2955 for price quotes and information.  Initial phone consultation at no charge.
